The design of this valve consists of two discs in contact with the parallel body seats by a light spring located between the discs and makes use of the line pressure to effect tight closure. Temperature changes in the line are accommodated by the flexibility of the disc assembly and therefore do not affect the action of the valve. When being opened or closed, the discs slide across the seat faces, thereby helping to dislodge any foreign matter that may be present. The valve operating stem is of the outside screw type rising through the handwheel.
